YRAIN
YRAIN is not simply a blog, but a growing long-term archive and reference database.
I create and publish original visualization products as part of the YRAIN Project,
operated under Kappabuchi LLC, using meteorological observation data and numerical weather prediction model outputs.
These visualizations enable users to explore weather information in a clear and accessible way—often beyond what is available on general weather websites.
I also visualize and share data related to Earth’s environmental monitoring systems.
In addition, I document and curate nature photography and trail information from Boulder, Colorado, and the surrounding region, with the goal of building a lasting, searchable resource rather than a collection of time-limited articles.
The YRAIN Project is designed to grow steadily over time, preserving observations, data, and local knowledge in a form that remains useful well into the future.
The YRAIN.com Domain Name
The domain name yrain.com was registered in 2008.
At that time, while preparing to offer a localized rainfall forecasting service, I searched for a short domain containing the word “rain.” The only available option was the version beginning with y, so I decided to purchase it.
The “y” represents “your,” as in “your rain forecast.”
The YRAIN Project predates the establishment of Kappabuchi LLC and has been continuously developed since 2008.
