Overview

Pella Crossing is a peaceful open space area in Longmont, Colorado, managed by Boulder County Parks & Open Space. The trail system loops around several wetlands and small lakes, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and relaxed nature walks.

With wide open views, water reflections, and seasonal wildflowers, this area feels very different from the mountain trails closer to Boulder.

Basic Information


Trailhead

The trailhead is located on the northeast side of the parking lot, where you’ll find an information board and map.

From here, you can explore a network of paths that circle multiple ponds and wetlands. Crossing N 75th Street provides access to additional lakes on the west side.

The Trails

The trails follow the edges of ponds and wetlands, with mostly flat and easy terrain.

On calm days, the water can appear clear and reflective, adding to the quiet atmosphere of the area.

Some sections of trail run between two bodies of water, creating open views across the wetlands. Large trees near the lakeshore provide shade and pleasant resting spots on warm days.

Wildlife

Pella Crossing is especially known for its wildlife. Many species of waterfowl can be seen here, along with other animals that depend on wetland habitats.

Interpretive signs along the trail explain the local ecosystem and the types of wildlife that live in the area.

Mountain Views

On clear days, you may even catch a distant view of Longs Peak rising above the plains from certain spots along the lakes.

Fall Wildflowers – Rubber Rabbitbrush

In autumn, bright yellow blooms of Rubber Rabbitbrush cover parts of the landscape, adding vivid color to the wetlands and shoreline areas.

These flowers attract pollinators, and bees are commonly seen gathering nectar during the fall season.
